We strongly encourage applicants with expertise in environmental geochemistry, especially in fields such as aqueous and low-temperature geochemistry, biogeochemistry, contaminant transport, stable isotope geochemistry, or related fields. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an externally funded research program, mentor graduate students, publish in leading scholarly journals, and contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations across FIU. The position will support and strengthen major university initiatives, including those in the Institute of Environment (IoE), the Extreme Events Institute (EEI), and other interdisciplinary programs focused on environmental sustainability, resilience, and climate adaptation. Responsibilities also include mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, teaching and developing innovative courses in environmental geochemistry and related disciplines, and contributing services to the Department, College, and Institute. Strong communication skills are essential and community engagement capabilities are desired.

The faculty member is expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental geochemistry and related disciplines.  Additional teaching assignments may be based on the successful candidate’s expertise and program needs.

The position offers opportunities to collaborate with researchers across environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, engineering, climate science, hydrology, coastal resilience, ecosystem restoration, and related fields. Candidates are expected to contribute to FIU’s mission as a leading public R1 research institution through excellence in research, teaching, mentorship, and service. A Ph.D. in Environmental Geochemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field is required by the appointment start date.

Qualified candidates at all career stages are encouraged to apply. Hiring will be considered at the appropriate rank. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and accomplishments. Applicants for senior rank (Associate Professor or Professor), preferably will have current or forthcoming extramural research funding transferable to FIU.

The successful candidate will hold a primary position in the Department of Earth and Environment in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education. Tenure-track and tenured faculty are strongly encouraged to be associated with one of our Centers or Institutes, including our Preeminent Programs: the Institute of Environment (https://environment.fiu.edu/) and the Extreme Events Institute (https://eei.fiu.edu). The salary is nationally competitive and commensurate with experience based on appropriate salary surveys.
