Skills/Qualifications
Research and study activities related to integrated water resources management and the definition of basin management plans in African contexts, with particular reference to surface waters in the Danakil area. The activities will focus on the microbiological study of lake environments, including alkaline lakes, and other extreme environments, such as hot springs, as well as on the analysis of biogeochemical cycles and the development of interpretative models of the functioning of these ecosystems and their contribution to the provision of ecosystem services for local populations at the basin scale.
Particular attention will also be devoted to the development, application and dissemination of advanced molecular and culture-based methodologies for the study of the microbiological quality of surface waters, with the aim of supporting and accelerating the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation). Part of the activities will also be aimed at assessing the contribution of research, innovation and international cooperation projects to the achievement of the objectives set out under SDG 6.

Eligibility criteria
Master’s degree in Biology, obtained within the last six years, as well as a suitable academic and professional background to support the research activities covered by the appointment
