Offer Description
The Department of Landscape, Water and lnfrastructure, Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research, is currently seeking a Postdoctoral or Postgraduate Research Associate (Senior Scientist).
Extent of employment: 20 hours per week
(with the option to increase through third-party funding)
Duration of employment: from 15th of October 2026, limited to 31st of March 2027
(with the option of a permanent extension)
Workplace: 1200 Vienna, BOKU Wasserbaulabor
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 (without Doc.), B1 lit. b (with Doc.)
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least (for 20h/week): without Doctorate € 1.888,10; with Doctorate € 2.507,20
(payable 14 times per year)
Responsibilities
- Management and Coordination of experiments in the BOKU River Lab (“Lab Engineer”)
- Planning and implementation of (large) scale experiments including scientific, experimental and measuring design
- Research driven development laser-optical measurement technology (tomoPIV, LOA, …), also as a service for researchers in the Lab
- Adoption of laser-optical measuring technology for Danube water operation of the BOKU River Lab (in particular for the 10m3/s channel)
- Scientific supervision of laser-optical measruement equipment (toniographic PIV etc) and scientific infrastructure such as the laser-optical Lab
- Scientific investigations in the field of hydraulic engineering, sediment transport and river research
- Publication of the results in international journals and presentation at national/international conferences
- Supervision of students
Required skills and qualifications
- Doctorate degree / PhD or completion of the doctorate in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related university degrees or
- Diploma degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other equivalent university degree
- Language skills: very good written and spoken German and English skills
- Excellent knowledge and experience in planning and implementing hydraulic scale models, in particular large scale models on research topics of the Institute
- Advanced knowledge of PIV and LDV measurements
- Very good knowledge of measurement and test engineering
