Offer Description
The Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure, Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate (project employment).
Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of October 2026, limited to 31st of December 2026
(with the option of a temporary extension)
Workplace: 1200 Vienna
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 3.776,10
(payable 14 times per year)
Responsibilities
- Scientific work on the project “Systematic analysis of the drift risk of people as a contribution to minimizing flood risk” as part of a doctoral dissertation
- Assistance with the planning and setup of the experiment involving people in floodwater, which takes place under controlled conditions at the BOKU River Lab
- Literature review
- Assistance with conducting drift tests in the BOKU River Lab
- Analysis of the data and development of a calculation tool
- Assistance with drafting a guideline
- Writing of scientific publications
- Participation at conferences and presentation of results
Required skills and qualifications
- Diploma degree in in Civil/Environmental Engineering and Water Management or other equivalent university degree
- Language skills: excellent written and spoken German and English
- Excellent knowledge of hydraulics/hydrodynamics
- Experience in data acquisition (water levels, velocities, pressures, etc.) and data analysis
- Ability to work under pressure and a strong sense of responsibility when dealing with potential hazards
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Strong interest in writing a doctoral dissertation on the topic of drift hazards
- Basic programming skills for data analysis are a plus
