POSITION OBJECTIVE or JOB SUMMARY:

The Junior Project Engineer will supervise the technical aspect for the ITC MSK-Child Friendly Infrastructure & Awareness– WASH in Schools and Groundwater Recharge Project in Kolkata, West Bengal. The role involves preparation of technical documentation, site assessments and measurements, preparation of designs and cost estimates, supervision of construction and renovation works, training support, and quality assurance to ensure timely, technically sound, and quality implementation of infrastructure interventions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

1. Technical Documentation

• Prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) adhering to timelines & deadlines with accurate technical designs, CAD drawings, cost estimates, and on-site measurements for WASH and groundwater recharge structures

• Maintain necessary technical records, measurements, photographs, and progress documentation.

2. Need Assessment & Site Selection

Conduct Need Assessment and guide feasibility studies if needed, and scope all technical possibilities for infrastructural interventions

3. Implementation

• Coordinate with the project team, contractors, and masons to ensure construction/ implementation work is in line with approved technical designs, specifications and quality standards.

• Provide technical guidance and resolve site level technical issues during implementation

• Support measurement verification, work completion assessment, and handover of completed infrastructure interventions.

4. Quality Assurance

Conduct regular/routine site inspections to verify construction quality, material usage, proper mix ratios, workmanship and structural soundness.

5. Tendering Process Support

Help draft technical specifications for tenders and support the evaluation of technical bids.

6. Training & Orientation

• Support orientation and training sessions for masons and contractors on design specifications and construction best practices.

• Conduct DPR orientation for stakeholders at project sites after vendor finalization, explaining the approved design, scope of work, and implementation requirement

7. Site Monitoring & Reporting

Undertake a minimum of five site visits per project as per need in a month, monitor progress, and submit monthly progress reports & checklists to the reporting

8. Duty Allocation

Undertake any other task as assigned by Project Officer/ Program Support Manager/ Sr. Engineer

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Diploma / bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

• Minimum 1 year of experience in infrastructure projects, preferably in WASH, schools, or groundwater recharge structures.

• Ability to prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and drawings (AutoCAD proficiency preferred).

• Good knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and quality control standards.

• Strong field orientation and ability to work in rural settings.

• Fluency in Bangla (preferred) and working knowledge of English and Hindi

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Ability to travel up to 60% of the time locally for site monitoring / need assessment purpose

• This position works primarily in the field office

• Candidates must have legal authorization to work and reside in India. Proof of residency or work authorization will be requested during the recruitment process.
