The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Communications Officer to join our Media and Communication team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the department’s important work supporting Queensland communities, strengthening local government partnerships, managing water resources sustainably and delivering on government priorities that matter to Queenslanders.

The Role

As a Principal Communications Officer, you will play a key role in developing and delivering communication and engagement initiatives that support the department’s strategic objectives.

Working collaboratively across the department, you will provide expert communication advice, build strong stakeholder relationships and create engaging content and campaigns that connect employees and external audiences with our
work. This role offers a diverse and rewarding mix of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, content development, and project delivery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

* Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of communication and engagement strategies, plans and activities.
* Partner with business areas to provide practical and strategic communication advice that supports departmental priorities.
* Create compelling, clear and accessible content across a variety of channels, including intranet articles, internal campaigns, digital content and social media.
* Support the delivery of communication activities for both internal and external audiences.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the department to identify opportunities, manage issues and deliver successful communication outcomes.
* Contribute to department-wide communication initiatives and collaborate with colleagues to deliver integrated communication solutions.
* Identify emerging communication trends, tools and opportunities to continuously improve how we engage with our audiences.
* Foster a positive, collaborative and solutions-focused team culture.

About You

  • Has demonstrated experience developing and delivering strategic communication and engagement initiatives.
    * Is a confident communicator with exceptional writing, editing and stakeholder engagement skills.
    * Can translate complex information into clear, engaging and audience-focused communication products.
    * Builds productive working relationships and collaborates effectively across teams and business areas.
    * Brings initiative, creativity and sound judgement to communication challenges.
    * Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can evolve and no two days are the same.
