Theoretical and Practical Study on the Temperature of Water Bodies Partially Covered by Floating Photovoltaic Systems via EURAXESS

Università degli Studi di Catania

Catania, Italy 🇮🇹

Offer Description

The research activity aims to investigate the impact of floating photovoltaic (FPV) systems on partially covered water reservoirs, with particular focus on water temperature variations induced by the shading of solar radiation.
Planned Activities
Geometric modeling of the reservoir and the FPV system.
Definition of environmental boundary conditions.
CFD simulations of the reservoir with and without FPV coverage.
Analysis and evaluation of the simulation results.
Sensitivity analysis with respect to the coverage ratio and the geometry of the FPV system.
Objectives
Quantify the influence of FPV systems on the temperature of water reservoirs.
Understand the role of solar radiation shading on the thermal regime of the reservoir.
Provide useful guidelines for the sustainable design of FPV systems.
Expected Results
Development of a CFD model.
Quantitative parametric assessment
