Work Plan:
Task 1. Evaluation of biomass pre-treatment – Biomass pre-treatment is a crucial step toward the successful extraction of PHAs. In the literature, several processes have been described which will be tested under RENEW project.
Task 2. Extraction of PHA with different NADES and optimization of the extraction conditions, namely temperature, time, stirring rate, coupling with microwave and/or ultrasound will be performed to guarantee the maximum extraction yield.
Fellowship duration: The fellowship is for 6 months, eventually renewable during the course of the project. The expected date for the start of the grant is September 2026.
Application deadline and form of application submission: The applications must be submitted between August 31 and September 11 2026.
Documentation to be provided when applying: Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents:
i) Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
ii) Certificate of academic qualifications and other relevant supporting documents, namely proof of enrollment in a Master’s degree related to chemistry/biochemistry and/or biotechnology (at the application stage, these may be replaced by a declaration of honor as stated in item no. 2);
iii) Motivation letter;
Note 1: For academic degrees conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it is mandatory to present the record of recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12 October), or alternatively, to obtain equivalence/recognition of academic degrees (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 283/83). of June 21).

– BII grants cannot be awarded to anyone who has already benefited from research grants directly or indirectly funded by the FCT, awarded under the Research Grant Holder Statute;
– Laboratory experience in green chemistry;
– Written and oral fluency in English

Benefits
Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The net salary will be of 701,12 EUR/month, which will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

Selection process
Selection criteria: The selection methods to be used and the respective weighting will be as follows:
a. Curricular assessment (grade from 1 to 20) weighting 50%;
b. Experience in the research area (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%.
The jury will resort to conducting selection interviews with the three best-ranked candidates, with classification higher than 15 values.
In the event that the jury conducts interviews, the selection methods change, becoming the following:
a. Curricular assessment and experience in the research area (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%;
b. Interview (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%.
All applications will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 20 values.
Candidates who do not obtain a minimum grade of 15, as a result of the jury’s evaluation according to the selection criteria, will not be hired.

Form of advertising/notification of results: The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.
After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT’s Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.
