Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Environmental Engineer to join the Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team and support environmental compliance for Gigafactory Berlin construction and manufacturing operations. They will be responsible for ensuring Tesla operates permit and legally compliant with regulations during all phases of site operations. This position will also serve as the environmental subject matter expert and regulatory point of contact for the facility for environmental specialist topics. Key responsibilities include carrying out technical and regulatory inspections, validating process designs, and managing compliance reporting. The engineer ensures that environmental protection measures are effective, data quality is maintained, and systems operate reliably within the operational environment.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure Tesla operates in compliance with all applicable national, regional, and local environmental laws and regulations
- Ensure construction and operations comply with relevant environmental laws and regulations (particularly regarding water protection)
- Contribute to identifying, analysing, and tracking new and emerging environmental regulations and implement programs and procedures to maintain compliance in Water Protection topics
- Coordinate risk assessment concepts for plants and machines with water hazardous substances
- Collaborate with other relevant specialist departments such as hazardous materials or waste management, as well as interfaces with occupational safety
- Review and provide feedback on new processes and equipment design and validate it complies with related regulations
- Support for all environmental permitting efforts (e.g. permit according to BImSchG, water permits, discharge permits)
- Perform site inspections to verify compliance with Environmental/Water Protection regulations
- Interface with regulatory authorities and oversee regulatory inspections
- Tasks related to duties of Water Protection Officer
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or a closely related EHS discipline; alternatively the equivalent in experience.
- Experience and training in the area of Environmental Compliance
- Strong technical knowledge and skills implementing and complying national regulations at a large manufacturing facility
- Previous experience serving Water Protection Officer (“Gewässerschutzbeauftragter”) is a plus, alternative the ability to meet the minimum qualifications within 6 months
- Evidence of exceptional ability and demonstrated success managing environmental compliance programs
- Ability to translate complex information into a business context and communicate effectively at all management levels
- Fluent in German and English (verbal and written)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
