- By order dated April 21, 2026, issued by the Vice-President of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS), Professor Carlos Manuel Severino da Mata the opening, for a period of fifteen business days starting from the date of publication of this notice on Bolsa de Emprego Público (BEP), international documentary selection process to fill a position within the special scientific research career— of Assistant Researcher, under an indefinite-term public employment contract.
- This call for applications implements the provisions of Article 3, paragraph 4, of Law No. 55/2025 of April 28, which approved the Statute of the Scientific Research Career (SSRC), and Article 6, paragraph 5, of Decree-Law No. 57/2016 of August 29, as amended by Law No. 57/2017 of July 19, regarding the employment contract for the PhD-holding researcher associated with reference PTDC/ASP-PLA/30003/2017 — OLIVESIM.
- Scientific Area: Hydraulics and Environment – Earth and Environmental Sciences, in the sub-areas of mathematical modeling of groundwater, water resource and aquifer management, risks of saltwater intrusion in aquifers, geophysics, geotechnics, and geosciences.

Specific Requirements
Requirements for approval based on absolute merit: Admission of candidates is contingent upon their approval based on absolute merit, assessed through the merit of their overall curriculum in the scientific field of the competition, and also takes into account the fulfillment of the following requirements, cumulatively:
- Possess a minimum of five years of professional experience, following the attainment of a doctoral degree, in the sub-fields covered by the competition;
- Have been the first or second author of at least four scientific articles published within the last six years—in the sub-fields covered by the competition—in journals indexed in Clarivate Analytics Web of Science or SCOPUS and classified as Q1 or Q2 quartile;
- Have participated, as a member of a research team, in at least three research projects—at least one of which involved serving as principal investigator—whether completed or ongoing, funded through competitive national or international calls, within the scientific sub-areas of this call;
- Have participated in at least two European cooperation projects focused on the development of research strategies, open science practices, and collaboration mechanisms within the framework of European university alliances.

Benefits
- Type of employment relationship to be established: Indefinite-term public service employment contract, with a five-year probationary period, pursuant to Article 15 in conjunction with Article 17, paragraph 7, of the SSRC.
- Remuneration: Pursuant to Article 26 of the SSRC, in conjunction with Decree-Law No. 408/89 of November 18 (as amended), the remuneration corresponds to index 195—situated between positions 53 and 54 of the unified salary scale..
- Working conditions: Those stipulated in the ECIC and in the General Public Service Labour Law (LTFP), approved as an annex to Law No. 35/2014 of June 20, in its current version—and in the IPS Regulation applicable to career researchers.

- Selection method: The selection method to be applied to candidates admitted to the competition and approved on the basis of absolute merit is the evaluation of their curriculum vitae.

- Selection system:
- Each jury member shall conduct a reasoned assessment of the applications in a written document—attached to the minutes of the respective meeting—stating the final score obtained by each candidate based on the evaluation criteria, parameters, and corresponding weighting factors (Evaluation Grid) set out in this notice.
- The candidates’ final scores shall be expressed on a numerical scale of 0 to 100 points, calculated as the average of the scores awarded by each jury member.
- The jury shall draw up a final ranked list of candidates in descending order of the quantitative scores obtained; candidates achieving a final score of 50 points or higher shall be considered approved.

- To facilitate the most appropriate classification of curricular elements, candidates must organize both versions of their curriculum vitae in accordance with the evaluation and absolute merit grids for admission approved by the selection panel, including appropriate hyperlinks connecting the items listed in both versions to the corresponding documents; failure to do so may result in the non-assessment of the elements within each item of the evaluation grid.
- Failure to submit the works and proof of the activities mentioned in the candidate’s curriculum vitae shall result in those elements not being scored under the respective items of the evaluation grid.
- Recognition of qualifications: Candidates holding qualifications obtained from foreign higher education institutions must provide proof of their recognition, in accordance with applicable legislation.
