The Regional Sector Leader (RSL) for Water Supply & Watershed Management is an integral role within our regional leadership team, directing our work with thoughtful collaboration, an innovative spirit, and a vision for partnering closely with communities to solve their important water supply challenges. Water Supply & Watershed Management focuses on helping our clients understand and manage the connections between water source availability, source water quality, watershed health, infrastructure capabilities, natural infrastructure, and future water demands. Under your direction as the Regional Sector Leader, you will leverage knowledge of industry drivers and trends to strategically grow our technical capabilities to differentiate Stantec among our peers. The Regional Sector Leader also supports business development and growth and engages directly with key clients in the US North geography and beyond, creating technical differentiators for our pursuits, and establishing a strong industry brand and presence.
To reinforce our presence, the Regional Sector Leader is expected to participate in professional conferences, and extend existing connections between local staff and clients to expand and grow Stantec’s capacity to win and deliver water supply & watershed management work in our US North region, from the Midwest to New England and Virgina.
Reporting directly to the North America Water Supply & Watershed Sector Leader, you will play a pivotal role in translating our broader North American strategy into actionable initiatives for the US North geography, closely collaborating to align projects and key client needs with our resources and technical capabilities.
Your Key Responsibilities
Coordinating with the US North Regional Growth Leader, you will be responsible for the following within your region:
- Providing leadership to our internal water supply & watershed management practitioners.
- Reinforcing our external brand as a leader in water supply & watershed management through active participation in industry organizations, thought leadership, and communication with strategic clients.
- Identifying and supporting the win of strategic pursuits in collaboration with local Business Center Practice Leaders, Account Managers, and business developers.
- Acting as a Liaison between local / regional teams and the North American Sector Leader and practice community to leverage both their and the sector’s technical skills locally.
You will be expected to:
- Regularly engage with clients.
- Actively participate in relevant industry associations.
- Leverage and actively develop your understanding of industry drivers, market trends, and legislative requirements in the North region to support and grow our water supply & watershed management portfolio.
- Help teams deliver complex projects with a focus on quality, risk management, and long‑term value.
- Foster a water supply & watershed management practice across and beyond the region to share knowledge, best practices, and practical solutions.
- Contribute to our North America Water Supply & Watershed Management Sector to implement our strategy and bring services and specialists from the broader Stantec organization to our clients.
- Help recruit, retain, and inspire a team of water supply & watershed management practitioners, at multiple levels, with exceptional technical skills.
- Engage in delivery of water supply & watershed management projects as a subject matter expert, leveraging your expertise, industry best practices, and new or innovative methodologies.
- Work closely with sector leaders, regional growth teams, project developers, and local teams to leverage internal resources and match them up with projects and pursuits where they can bring value, inclusive of working across business lines.
- Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Health and Safety culture within Stantec.
- Apply your knowledge of and experience water supply and water resources which may include surface water, groundwater, and recycled water supplies; river systems; water-related infrastructure; applicable laws/policies/regulations/guidelines; and/or understanding of operations of major water systems.
- Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams conducting water resources planning projects throughout the US North Region.
- Perform and/or lead technical evaluations supporting the planning and design of integrated water supply and infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge of water resources/water supply, including water source availability, source water quality, watershed health, infrastructure capabilities, natural infrastructure, and future water demands.
- Experienced and visible industry leader in delivering complex projects with a high degree of technical proficiency.
- Experience with and understanding of water policies, programs, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ability to lead and inspire multi-disciplinary teams with a strong commitment to meeting goals and upholding Stantec’s values and policies.
- Demonstrated understanding of the North region market and industry trends with established working relationships with pertinent organizations.
- Strong client relationships and experience with local/regional water management agencies.
- Think strategically about the technologies, regulations, range of market, business and/or economic issues likely to impact the sector. Uses this information to develop strategies for sector development and growth.
- Champions innovative ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports innovation.
- Proven experience in client communications and technical proposal writing.
- Excellent technical and business acumen.
- Committed to Health, Safety and Environment.
- Located in the US North region with ability to travel throughout North America.
- Bachelor’s degree in water resources engineering, civil/environmental engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, or a related field from an accredited institution. Advanced degree preferred.
- 15 or more years of directly relevant experience.
- Professional certification/registration (PE, PH, PG, etc.) in appropriate area of expertise.
Pay Range:
• Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, NY Areas-$151,200.00 – $234,400.00 Annually
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$166,300.00 – $257,800.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA areas-$178,400.00 – $276,600.00 Annually
• Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP)-$190,500.00 – $295,300.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
