Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours in a rolling year. The salary range for Student Assistant (E&A) $18.27 – $28.16 per hour.
The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for a Student Assistant (Engineering and Architectural Sciences) in the Groundwater Protection Division. The position is located 1515 Clay Street, Suite 1400, Oakland, CA 94612.
Duties:
Under the close supervision of a Supervising Water Resource Control Engineer, the incumbent will assist Board staff in a variety of subprofessional and technical duties related to the oversight of groundwater cleanup and protection cases in the Site Cleanup Program (SCP), Land Disposal Program (LDP), Department of Defense (DoD) Program, and Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program. Tasks will primarily involve cursory review of technical and engineering reports and work plans, flagging reports that are incomplete or inadequate based on comparison to acceptable parameters, preparing first drafts of letters, checking engineering calculations, especially or vapor mitigation systems, and assisting with field work primarily consisting of site inspections to observe and document site investigation and remediation activities. Tasks will include administrative tasks such as scanning documents and entering project information into GeoTracker and other internal databases, and responding to public and staff inquiries.

Working Conditions
Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.
In accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and GC 14200, the successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Proof of residency may be required.
Salary Information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. Employees appointed to the Attorney or Water Resource Control Engineer classification will receive Recruitment Higher Above Minimum (HAM) rate in accordance with the approved Civil Service Pay Scales.
