Here’s The Role
Does working outdoors, collecting and analyzing water data sound like a dream? We are hiring a highly motivated and dedicated earth scientist interested in surface water hydrology and hydrography! In this role, you will apply science and creativity to solve real-world problems and ensure important hydrologic and meteorological data reach our decision makers. You will calculate low flow and flood flow discharge measurements, do routine maintenance on and troubleshoot field monitoring equipment, data quality control, survey, hydraulic analysis, and data analysis. Candidates should live within 30 miles of Austin to be available for occasional night, weekend, and holiday work. Whether you are new, junior, or a senior level hydrologist, we want you!
How You’ll Contribute
- Collect and monitor hydrologic data including but not limited to stage/discharge measurements, reference elevation marks, high water marks, point of zero flow, and channel and control section conditions.
- Maintain field instruments and calibrate meteorological equipment.
- Analyze hydrologic data including development and maintaining rating curves for stream sites.
- Educate and communicate to internal and external customers on lake and river operations and conditions.
How You’re Qualified
- Four or more years of experience in hydrology, such as performing equipment installation/maintenance, hydrologic data collection and hydrologic analysis or relevant experience.
- A degree(s) in hydrology, water resources, electronics, engineering or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- Driver’s license
How You’ll Stand Out
- Knowledge of hydrological principles, practices and tools.
- Knowledge of remote data collection systems and how it pertains to meteorological equipment.
- Knowledge of monitoring, testing, debugging, and maintaining hydrology related systems on servers (applications, server operating systems, database, and hardware).
- Knowledge of database management and topology – how data moves between systems including use of SQL queries and API calls.
