We are seeking a Municipal Water Analyst for Europe to play a leading role in Bluefield’s municipal water research practice. This role focuses on researching and analyzing utility strategies, infrastructure investment, regulation, market drivers, and emerging trends shaping water utility and company strategies across Europe. The right candidate will grow into a trusted industry advisor, helping the strategy, marketing, business development, and innovation teams at leading water companies make informed decisions.

Become an expert on Europe’s water markets 
  • Analyze trends, market dynamics, regulations, and investment across Europe’s municipal water and wastewater sectors.
  • Research utility business models, capital investment strategies, technology adoption, and infrastructure modernization.
  • Deliver data-driven market research and insights that help engineering firms, equipment manufacturers, utilities, utility service providers, and investors assess market opportunities and competitive positioning.
  • Build, maintain, and analyze proprietary datasets covering European utilities, infrastructure investment, regulations, capital projects, and industry performance.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on utility financial performance, capital spending, procurement, climate resilience, and sustainability.
  • Track major market developments, including utility reforms, public-private partnerships, funding programs, strategic investments, and policy changes.
  • Monitor EU directives, national regulations, and funding programs shaping municipal water infrastructure investment, and interview industry stakeholders to gather market intelligence and validate findings.
  • Produce high-quality reports, presentations, and client briefings that communicate complex market insights clearly and effectively, adapting information collection and presentation methods as new tools and AI applications reshape the industry.
  • Collaborate closely with Bluefield’s consulting, sales, marketing, and production teams as a team player in a mid-size company environment, and represent the company at client meetings, conferences, and industry events across Europe.
Show off your education, skills, and experience
  • Two to five years of relevant experience in water industry research, market research, consulting, infrastructure analysis, municipal utilities, environmental services, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience analyzing markets, infrastructure trends, financial data, or public-sector investment.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting findings to executive audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or other data visualization and analytical tools, and a fast learner who can adapt to new technologies, including AI, for information collection and presentation.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Curiosity about infrastructure, sustainability, water policy, and the evolving municipal water sector, along with an interest in becoming a recognized industry expert who advises leading companies on strategy, marketing, business development, and innovation.
The basics
  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in environmental science, engineering, economics, public policy, business, finance, geography, or a related discipline. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Legal authorization to work in Spain/European Union.
  • The position is based in our Barcelona, Spain office, full-time on-site for the first six months, transitioning to a hybrid schedule thereafter.
  • Occasional travel throughout Europe for industry events, research, and client meetings.
