Research fellow (m/f/d) in project ATOMAQUA with expected full-time employment – E 13 TV-L HU (third-party funding limited until 31.10.2027)
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow (f/d/m) to further develop and improve the Gravimetric Atom-Interferometer (GAIN) in the joint project ATOMAQUA.
ATOMAQUA is a new BMFTR funded joint endeavor bringing together academic institutions and industry to employ quantum technologies to address challenges in, e.g., environmental protection and the optimal use of natural resources. Specifically, this project will use atom Interferometry for quantitative measurements on underground water reservoirs.
Your responsibilities:
– scientific service in research in the ATOMAQUA project
– development and implementation of novel atom interferometry schemes using combinations of electro-optical modulators and high-finesse optical resonators
– organize and participate in GAIN measurement campaigns
– work closely with other postdoctoral fellows, doctoral candidates and Masters students
– interact intensively with academic and industrial partners in the ATOMAQUA collaboration
– present research results in international journals and conferences
What you bring to the table:
– completed scientific university education (Master or similar) and Ph.D./doctoral degree (completed or thesis already submitted) in physics (or in related fields with appropriate specialization)
– practical experience with either ultra-cold atoms/molecules, atom interferometry, optical clocks or precision measurement applications
– English language skills (B2, demonstrated by a certificate or writing sample included in the application materials and a speech sample during the interview)
– good team spirit and ability to work effectively in a collaboration
What would be desirable:
– expertise in the development and/or characterization of laser systems for laser cooling or precision measurement applications
– general laboratory skills (especially: optics, opto‐mechanics, opto‐electronics, RF‐electronics)
– good knowledge of analog and digital electronics
– programming skills (preferably Python), databases, data visualization, and version control
– experience in computer aided design (preferably Autodesk Inventor)
– German language skills (no minimum level required)
– gender and diversity sensitivity
