Given the rapidly increasing interest and activities on Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) in Africa, there are now excellent conditions for building a strong Community of Practice for African countries, whereby their capacity to develop and use NCA can be amplified through mutual support and joint activities. Many organizations are active in the space of promoting and developing NCA, such as GPS/WB, UNEP, UNSD, UNECA, UNESCWA, UNEP, EU, CI, FAO, UNDP, IUCN, WWF, CSF, and GDSA. The focus of these organizations is primarily to support countries to develop accounts, through e-training, F2F training and awareness-raising events. While all of them strive to make the accounts policy relevant, policy needs the evidence/data that is not as available as required. The intention of the current Africa NCA CoP and the African Development Bank’s strategic orientation towards natural resources beneficiation is to fill this gap.

In order to bolster the Bank’s hosting of the Africa Natural Capital Accounting Community of Practice (Africa NCA COP) Secretariat, ECNR is seeking a Natural Resource Economist/Consultant to support its work stream on valuing natural capital particularly in mainstreaming natural resources into the GDP of African countries through knowledge building, policy advisory, statistics, advocacy, coordination of the NCA CoP Secretariat, communication and capacity building, as well as providing cross cutting advice to members of the Steering Committee of the NCA CoP, Country Partners and Donor Partners of the COP in institutionalizing the NCA CoP and NCA in AfDB’s Regional Member Countries.
