SUPERIOR TECHNICAL WORK CONTRACT (1 vacancy)

Reference: 2026_064_TS_MAR2PROTECT

A competition is open for the attribution of 1 technician position in the framework of the project MAR2PROTECT: Preventing groundwater contamination related to global and climate change through a holistic approach on managed aquifer recharge, funded by the European Union under the GA nº101082048, according to the following conditions: 

  1. Scientific area: Environmental Sciences
  2. Admission requirements

i) hold a degree in Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry or related field 

ii) have experience on phytoremediation processes and applications, 

iii) have experience in sampling and experiment assembling

iv) have experience in the use of analytical techniques to determine organic and inorganic environmental relevant contaminants

v) have experience in science communication;

vi) have experience in working in research projects

Whenever the degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, said degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August until the signature of the contract.

Conditions of preference:

Experience in participation in projects related to phytoremediation, wetlands and chemical assessment is highly advantageous.

  1. Work plan: 

The selected candidate will work for the project in the following tasks:

Assessing the efficiency of phytoremediation for water management in river basins using an estuarine saltmarsh in the Lima river as case study; 

Determination of aquatic pollutants in water, sediment and saltmarsh samples; 

Assessing the potential of saltmarsh plants to remove contaminants and remediate impacted areas; 

Report writing, dissemination and communication activities

  1. Work place:

The work will be carried out at CIIMAR, Edifício do Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos, s/n, 4450-208 Matosinhos, and DQB in FCUP, Rua do Campo Alegre, 687, 419-007 Porto, within Environmental Chemistry and Recovery research team under the supervision of Dr. Marisa Almeida

  1. Duration of the contract:

An unfixed-term employment contract scheduled to August 2026, under the legal terms in force (Labor Code).

  1. Monthly salary:

Equated to the higher technical career, level 19: gross monthly salary € 1657.04; food, holidays and Christmas allowance apart

  1. Selection methods

The evaluation will take into account:

– Merit of the academic curriculum and performance (global appreciation taking into account the graduation degree, its appropriateness to the position as well as the performance of the candidate in such degree, and relevant research activities) ranked from 0 to 10 with a relative weight of 30% 

– Relevant experience and qualification for the proposed research activities (field sampling, expertise in chemical analysis, knowledge on phytoremediation processes and its application, knowledge on wetlands functioning, experience in science communication) ranked from 0 to 10 with a relative weight of 70%

The candidate with the highest score will be offered the position, provided that such score is above seven (7) values. In the case of a tie between the scores of the top candidates, and provided that such scores are higher than 7 values, an interview will be performed to these candidates to allow for the selection of a single candidate. The selection will be based on the vote of each member of the jury regarding the most adequate candidate for the position, and, in the case of a tie in the vote, the vote of the president of the jury will prevail. The jury reserves the right to not assign the contract if none of the candidates meets all requirements and match the desired profile.

  1. Form of advertising/notification of results

The final results of the evaluation will be send through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed mark, by e-mail and available in CIIMAR website; in case of disagreement, the candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if he/she so wishes, as provided for in the Código do Procedimento Administrativo in a preliminary hearing setting. The jury reserves the right to not assign the contract depending on the quality of the applications.

  • copy of the eligibility certificates
  • motivation letter outlining past research activities and their relevance to the position
