Job Description

The William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute is a private, not-for-profit organization with educational, research, and demonstration facilities located in Chazy, New York. Miner Institute conducts research designed to enhance the sustainability of dairy farming, with researchers engaged in projects investigating soil and water conservation, nutrient management, field crop production, and dairy nutrition and welfare. This position is involved with the maintenance, sample collection, and data recording at our field water quality research sites. Laboratory, computer, math and problem-solving skills are necessary. Must also demonstrate communication skills and work effectively as part of a team. Miner Institute is an equal opportunity employer.

Duties

1.     Maintenance of monitoring and sampling equipment at research field sites

2.     Collection, preparation and laboratory analysis of water and soil samples

3.     Ability to closely adhere to field and lab standard operating procedures

4.     Ability and willingness to work in the field in adverse weather conditions

5.     Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform field sampling activities such as digging soil pits

6.     Data entry and summarization using software programs such as Microsoft Excel

7.     Additional duties as assigned by the Nutrient Management Researcher and Director of Research

Qualifications

1.     Must have good communication skills and interact cooperatively with coworkers

2.     Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities of a research institute

3.     Ability to multi-task while maintaining a high attention to detail

4.     Must be self-motivated with the ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team

5.     Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate research needs, including occasional evening and weekend hours

6.     Associate’s or BS degree in agronomy, plant/soil sciences, environmental sciences or related field is preferred.

7.     Experience working in an agricultural setting is preferred

Salary/Benefits

Hourly salary is $19-$21/hr and commensurate with experience.
