Community & Youth Educator (Part-Time)

Drink Local Drink Tap | Cleveland, Ohio

Pay: $22.00–$26.00 per hour

Schedule: Part-time, 25–29 hours per week

Location: Hybrid (Cleveland office, schools throughout Northeast Ohio, and community event locations)

Drink Local Drink Tap (DLDT) is a Cleveland-based nonprofit organization advancing water equity through education, advocacy, and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives in Northeast Ohio and Uganda.

Through our Wavemaker Program, we inspire thousands of students each year to become environmental stewards by exploring local and global water issues through engaging, standards-aligned educational experiences. Position Summary

Drink Local Drink Tap is seeking an energetic, dependable, and mission-driven Community & Youth Educator to deliver our Wavemaker classroom education program and represent the organization throughout the community.

During the school year, this position will facilitate engaging educational programs in elementary and middle school classrooms. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, this role will lead beach cleanups, participate in community outreach events, and engage students, families, volunteers, and corporate partners in meaningful conversations about local and global water issues.

Whether teaching in a classroom, leading a beach cleanup, or representing DLDT at a community event, the Community & Youth Educator serves as an ambassador for our mission, inspiring people of all ages to become better stewards of our water resources.

This position reports to the Education Partnerships & Program Manager, who oversees school partnerships, scheduling, curriculum quality, and program evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Wavemaker classroom education programs in Northeast Ohio schools.
  • Create positive, inclusive, and interactive learning experiences for students.
  • Follow established lesson plans and educational materials with consistency and attention to detail.
  • Represent Drink Local Drink Tap professionally in schools and throughout the community.
  • Lead beach cleanups with students, community members, and corporate volunteer groups.
  • Represent DLDT at community outreach events, festivals, and informational tables.
  • Educate youth and community members about local and global water issues, water equity, and environmental stewardship.
  • Inspire individuals of all ages to take meaningful action to protect water resources and strengthen their communities.
  • Set up, transport, and maintain educational materials, displays, and event supplies.
  • Collect attendance, program metrics, and participant feedback accurately and submit reports on time.
  • Communicate regularly with the Education Partnerships & Program Manager regarding program delivery, classroom feedback, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support World Water Day, beach cleanups, fundraising events, and other organizational initiatives as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

  • Classroom teaching or youth education experience with strong professional references.
  • Passion for environmental education, water stewardship, and Drink Local Drink Tap’s mission.
  • Excellent classroom management and presentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management.
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and lesson plans.
  • Professional and positive demeanor when working with teachers, students, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a small team.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout Northeast Ohio.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate stairs while transporting educational materials and event supplies.
  • Availability for evening and weekend events.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Current or former teaching license.
  • Experience facilitating environmental or outdoor education.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards.
  • Experience leading youth groups, camps, or volunteer activities.
  • Experience with a wide range of audiences, specifically 4th-8th graders

Compensation & Benefits

  • $22–$26 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
  • Part-time position (25–29 hours per week).
