Offer Description
The research project aims to develop models for the design of sustainable urban drainage devices. The models must represent the stochastic nature of rainfall through continuous multivariate approaches such as semi‑probabilistic methods and Monte Carlo simulations. The multivariate nature of the precipitation must be incorporated through the use of joint probability distributions, developed—when appropriate—by means of copula functions. The modelling framework must also be able to account for potential non‑stationarities in the precipitation process (event volumes, durations, number of events, and the dependence structure). For selected case studies, climatic trend estimation will be required in order to assess the performance of drainage devices under future scenarios. The modelling of rainfall–runoff transformation processes and of the performance of drainage devices may be carried out through ad‑hoc procedures or through existing hydraulic–hydrological models.
