The Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at Oklahoma State University (OSU) is offering a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) for a qualified Ph.D. student beginning Fall 2026. The selected candidate will join the Hydrological Extremes Lab (https://www.hydroexlab.com/) and conduct research under the supervision of Dr. K.J. Jafarzadegan.

The GRA position will be located at OSU’s main campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma. OSU is a modern land-grant institution with interdisciplinary programs that attract students from all 50 states and approximately 120 nations. As Oklahoma’s only university with a statewide presence, OSU improves lives through integrated, high-quality teaching, research, and outreach.

Available Position

Flood Modeling and Management

Applicants should hold an M.S. degree in engineering, hydrology, or a closely related field, with a strong interest in flood characterization and modeling.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with flood modeling software (particularly SWMM and HEC-RAS)
  • Familiarity with machine learning or AI methods for environmental data analysis
  • Programming experience in Python or similar languages
  • Strong background in statistics and quantitative analysis
