Role Description This is a full-time, on-site WASH Specialist role that is remote. The WASH Specialist will design, plan, and oversee water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions that support humanitarian and emergency operations, including needs assessments, technical specifications, workplans, and monitoring frameworks. The role involves coordinating with internal logistics, procurement, and operations teams to ensure timely and compliant sourcing, storage, and distribution of WASH supplies such as Aquatabs, purification units, tanks, and water systems. The WASH Specialist will provide technical guidance to partners and field teams, including training on safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices, as well as correct installation, operation, and maintenance of WASH infrastructure. The role also includes drafting technical documentation and reports, supporting proposal development and budgeting, and ensuring that WASH activities align with relevant national and international standards. The WASH Specialist will regularly engage with clients, humanitarian partners, and local authorities to troubleshoot challenges, document lessons learned, and strengthen quality and impact of SLS WASH services.
Qualifications
- Strong technical expertise in WASH programming, including water supply, sanitation systems, and hygiene promotion in humanitarian or low-resource settings.
- Experience planning, implementing, and monitoring WASH projects, including conducting needs assessments, developing BoQs and technical specifications, and overseeing field delivery.
- Knowledge of emergency WASH supply chains, including sourcing, quality control, storage, and deployment of purification units, water treatment chemicals, tanks, and related equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with logistics, procurement, and operations teams to align technical requirements with supply chain and field realities.
- Familiarity with international WASH standards and guidelines (e.g., Sphere, WHO, national regulations) and their practical application in the field.
- Excellent communication and training skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear guidance for diverse, multi-cultural teams and partners.
