EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) is the sole procurer and supplier of water and electricity in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. EWEC drives the planning, forecasting, purchasing, and system despatch services of water and electricity. EWEC fulfils these vital responsibilities through the short-term and long-term balancing of bulk supply and demand for distribution companies and authorities in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. The Data Scientist is responsible for leading the development and implementation of data-driven solutions to enhance water quality assessments by applying advanced techniques such as machine learning and predictive analytics. This role involves analysing complex datasets to identify trends, building data models, and maintaining data pipelines to support water quality assurance. The Data Scientist collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders, integrates external data sources, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the role includes driving continuous improvement initiatives, and optimising data processes to improve decision-making and system reliability, aligning with organisational goals.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of data-driven solutions to enhance the accuracy and reliability of water quality assessments, utilizing advanced data science techniques like machine learning and predictive analytics
  • Collaborate closely with water quality and integrity and other departments to integrate data science methodologies into water quality assurance, control and process models, thereby improving precision and reliability
  • Analyse large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, delivering actionable insights that facilitate continuous improvement in water quality monitoring and strategic decision-making
  • Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for efficient, secure, and reliable data collection, processing, and storage to support water quality assurance activities
  • Oversee the creation and refinement of data models and algorithms to boost the predictive capabilities of water quality tools, ensuring they align with operational and strategic goals
  • Develop and maintain water quality dashboards and visualisation tools to support operational monitoring, compliance reporting, performance tracking, and management decision-making.
  • Work with internal teams and external stakeholders to integrate external data sources and industry benchmarks into water quality models, providing a holistic view of water systems and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on data analysis, modeling outcomes, and water quality performance, highlighting key metrics and trends, with recommendations for system improvements
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant data privacy, security, and regulatory standards in water quality assurance activities, maintaining high quality and consistency across all data initiatives
  • Manage the documentation and reporting of data-related water quality assurance activities, ensuring all records are accurate, comprehensive, and accessible for audits and regulatory compliance
  • Lead projects aimed at enhancing water quality assurance processes, ensuring timely completion within budget and adhering to the highest standards of quality
  • Optimise data collection, processing, and storage practices to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of water quality models, which supports better decision-making across the organisation
  • Provide strategic oversight for the development and execution of data science initiatives related to water quality, ensuring alignment with long-term operational and strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with external partners and industry experts to stay abreast of advancements in water quality science, integrating new methodologies and tools into assurance processes
  • Support the integration of emerging technologies into water quality assurance models, aligning with sustainability and environmental targets
  • Ensure meticulous documentation, reporting, and communication of all water quality assurance activities in compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining transparency and accountability
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and data-driven insights effectively to senior management and other stakeholders, ensuring strategic alignment with EWEC’s broader goals

Standard Responsibilities:

  • Implement all relevant department policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner
  • Execute the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’ and changes in business environment and leveraging insights. This includes supporting the related change management efforts
  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) policies and requirements
  • Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports to meet the department requirements, policies and standards
  • Adhere to EWEC values (including sustainability, integrity, collaboration and innovation)
  • Upgrade technical skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience with data analysis tools and software required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analysis, with a focus on Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Data Analytics
  • Water and utility sector
