Hiring Range: $28.13-$31.88/hr.

Hiring Range: $31.49-$35.69/hr.

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities for the position. Licenses, Registration, and Certifications
- Must have a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Heavy Equipment Associate Operator – Minimum 1 years of related utility work experience. Heavy equipment excavation experience preferred.
- Heavy Equipment Operator – Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment excavation experience.
- Heavy Equipment Sr. Operator – Minimum 4 years of heavy equipment excavation experience.
Licenses, Registration, and Certifications
- Heavy Equipment Associate & Heavy Equipment Operator
- Must have a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Must obtain a valid Class ‘B’ Colorado Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.
- Must obtain a valid Class ‘A’ Colorado Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months of hire.
- Heavy Equipment Sr. Operator
- Must possess a valid Class ‘B’ Colorado Commercial Driver’s License and have a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Must obtain a valid Class ‘A’ Colorado Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months.

Respiratory Protection Testing
- This position is subject to respiratory protection testing as directed per Denver Water Physician.
An offer of employment may be contingent upon satisfactory results of a post-offer drug test and alcohol. Denver Water tests for the following: amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana (THC), opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP). A strength test may also be conducted due to the physical requirements of the position. This strength test may include lifting, pushing, and pulling various amounts of weight as well as crouching, squatting, and lifting one’s own body weight from various positions. If the position is deemed safety-sensitive or requires a CDL, you will be placed on the random drug and alcohol testing list, which means you may be tested if your name is selected while employed at Denver Water.

Position Summary
Under direct supervision, perform skilled work in the operation of heavy construction equipment used in Denver Water operations. Operate heavy equipment and machinery, excavating and materials handling equipment, backhoes, loaders, motor graders, dozers, cranes, dump trucks, boring machines, sweepers, snowcat, snowmobiles, bobcat, deck mowers, and boom mower.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the operation of all equipment on respective departmental job sites. Lubricate, maintain, and repair equipment during use.
- Use knowledge of state highway rules and regulations about loads, lengths, and widths. Use pertinent information from the Engineering Standards and Operating Rules.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution pipelines, hydrants, services, valves, and related components.
- Load, unload, and store material such as pipe, chemicals, cement, and lumber. Cut weeds and perform related unskilled duties.
- Use a variety of tools and resources including electronic, pipe locator, measuring wheel, maps, and GIS system to locate water mains, conduits, and service lines.
- May be required to perform on call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Carry out the organization’s Safety program through job performance and attendance at scheduled safety meetings.
- Must be able to perform safety sensitive functions.
- Participate in training programs and stay updated on equipment operation techniques, and safety practices.
- Train and instruct new operators and related personnel in job methods.- Heavy Equipment Operator
The Heavy Equipment Sr. Operator will have additional Essential Duties outlined below.
- Perform finish grading and earthwork.
- Perform building and ground maintenance including mowing, irrigation maintenance, painting, basic building repair, fence repair, and installation.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to new equipment operators as needed.
- May act as lead of a crew while operating equipment.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Perform excavation and backfilling of trenches, install pipes, valves, and other components, and ensure proper compaction of soil to meet project requirements.
- May be required to perform on call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Perform related work as required.
