The Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) invites highly qualified professionals to apply for the position of Water Resources and Groundwater Management Specialist under the project “Towards a Better Understanding of Amazonian Aquifer Systems for Their Protection and Sustainable Management” (GEF ID 11108).
Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by ACTO with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the project aims to strengthen scientific knowledge and promote the sustainable and coordinated management of Amazonian Aquifer Systems shared by Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
The position will play a strategic role in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the project’s technical and scientific activities, contributing to regional cooperation and the sustainable management of groundwater resources across the Amazon Basin.
Key Responsibilities
The selected specialist will:
Provide technical leadership in water resources and groundwater management.
Coordinate and supervise specialized consultancies and scientific studies.
Support the implementation of national and regional pilot projects.
Review technical and scientific reports produced by consultants and partners.
Lead the development of scientific publications, technical training activities and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Provide technical and methodological guidance on groundwater management and transboundary cooperation.
Contribute to the development of regional strategies, governance mechanisms and action plans related to Amazonian Aquifer Systems.
Support the integration of project data into the Amazon Regional Observatory (ARO).
Professional Profile
Applicants should have a degree in Water Resources Engineering, Geology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering or a related field, as well as a PhD in water resources, geology, environmental sciences or a related discipline.
Candidates should demonstrate:
At least five years of experience as a researcher.
A proven record of publications in international scientific journals.
Experience in research projects in the Amazon region.
Experience in developing technical proposals for funding.
Experience in regional and international scientific collaboration.
Duty Station
The position will be based at the Permanent Secretariat of ACTO in Brasília, Brazil, and will require availability for travel to ACTO Member Countries as needed by project activities.
