What you can expect as junior hydrodynamic modelling engineer
As a hydrodynamic modelling engineer you will be part of a team of 30 enthusiastic professionals, with diverse (inter)national background. Together you work on various modelling projects related coastal hydrodynamics, cooling water and brine dispersion modelling and dredging.
An example of a project is the feasibility study of the cooling water dispersion for the possible new nuclear power plants in the Netherlands. The modelling studies carried out for this directly support decision-making for this important dossier.
Our clients are primarily in the private sector, including water utilities and power companies in the Middle East and Gulf region. This region is at the forefront of the energy transition while facing significant environmental challenges. Making your work both relevant and impactful. Next to this, our team works on impactful studies in the Netherlands to support our government on topics like the thermal capacity of our waters and salt intrusion.
Your main activities will be:
- Apply modelling techniques such as coupled near field – far field plume modelling used recirculation studies for intakes and outfalls and in dredge plume studies.
- Set up and run numerical models (like Delft3D) in variety of projects.
- Analyse results and translate them into clear visualisations and presentations fitting the needs of our clients.
- Contribute to reports, presenting modelling results and translating results to advice, tailored to the client.
- Support acquiring projects (e.g., writing proposals).
- Carry out research and development projects to develop new and innovative knowledge products in the field of coastal hydrodynamics.
What does Deltares expect from you as an hydrodynamic modelling engineer
You are proactive and enjoy combining research with advisory work. This role is a excellent first step to further develop your modelling and consultancy skills. In addition you:
- Have (or are about to obtain) an MSc degree in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering, Fluid Dynamics or similar.
- Have experience with numerical hydrodynamic modelling (Delft3D), preferably (near field and far field) plume modelling, and knowledge of Matlab/Python knowledge is beneficial.
- Experience/affinity with adjacent topics, to enhance integral solutions, is beneficial.
- You are fluent in speaking English (written and spoken). Dutch is a plus.
- You feel comfortable taking initiative, communicating your ideas clearly, and working in an international environment with different cultures and perspectives.
