POSITION: Environmental Technician
LOCATION: Work from home. Field work in Grand Bend, Goderich, Kincardine and Saugeen Shores, ON.
CONTRACT DATES: End of June – August 2026 (8 weeks).
HOURS: Full-time, 35 hours per week. Generally regular office hours, however, may vary based on
project demands. Occasional overnight travel, evening or weekend work could be required with advance
notice.
WAGE: $20 per hour

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with delivery of Coastal Conservation Youth Corps program in Grand Bend, Goderich and
Kincardine. This will involve working indoors and outdoors leading small groups of youth
participants aged 14-18, teaching them about coastal ecosystems, completing restoration projects
and educational activities.
• Assist with the Green Ribbon Champion beach restoration program including planting native dune
species, removing invasive species, managing volunteers, workshops and installing sand fencing.
• Assist with the Coast Watchers community science program. This may involve recruiting and training
volunteers, data management and analysis, and communications work.
• Assist in planning and hosting beach clean-up events.
• Provide presentations to community groups on Lake Huron related topics when applicable.
• Work with program coordinators to design educational materials such as fact sheets, social media
posts, e-newsletter articles, videos and content for website.
• Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES
• Education or training related to environmental science, ecological restoration, ecosystem
management or similar is an asset.
• Knowledge of conservation and environmental concepts, especially related to the Great Lakes
including plastic pollution and coastal processes, is considered an asset.
• Plant identification skills (especially beach-dune plants) are an asset.
• Experience working with youth or general community outreach in a conservation related program is
an asset.
• Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,
etc.), email, social media. Experience with Adobe design software, Wix, Canva, and digital email
marketing software such as Constant Contact is an asset.
• A valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and adequate insurance coverage is required.
• Able to complete physically demanding tasks outdoors in rugged terrain under various weather
conditions.
• Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong team-player with excellent interpersonal, flexibility and communication skills.
• Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to
work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
• Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
• Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been
granted/conferred.
• International students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit
are not eligible for the program.
