About Mallee CMA

Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is a Victorian Government statutory authority. Our role it is to facilitate integrated and ecologically sustainable management of natural, cultural, and productive landscapes. The Mallee CMA region covers 3.9 million hectares – about one fifth of Victoria. It is the largest catchment area in the state and runs along the Murray River from Nyah to the South Australian border, and south through vast dryland cropping areas and public reserves.

About the opportunity

Are you ready to coordinate the delivery of environmental water across high-value floodplains, wetlands and river systems? You’ll lead a specialist team, manage key programs, and work closely with government, water authorities and community partners to achieve real environmental outcomes.

This is a permanent role (up to 1.0 FTE) offering a salary range between $100,000 and $113,000 plus super.

About the role

In this leadership role, you will:

  • Coordinate and deliver environmental watering programs across the region
  • Lead Seasonal Watering Proposals and oversee contractors and infrastructure operations
  • Manage compliance, risk, and operational planning
  • Work closely with stakeholders to support effective decision making
  • Drive continuous improvement through adaptive management and new knowledge
  • Support public engagement to build understanding and support for environmental outcomes
  • Strengthen stakeholder relationships to support effective service delivery and shared outcomes
  • Coordinate the operation and maintenance of water delivery assets and infrastructure

What we’re looking for

A motivated leader and environmental professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast paced, and purpose-driven environment. You combine strong scientific understanding with operational execution and an inclusive leadership style. Among your skills you will have:

  • A degree in science, environmental management, ecology, NRM, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in environmental program management or similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of waterway ecology, particularly floodplains, wetlands, and rivers.
  • A collaborative, supportive leadership approach that brings out the best in a team.
