Mallee CMA is the largest catchment area in the state of Victoria, running along the Murray River from Nyah to the South Australian border.

About Mallee CMA

Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is a Victorian Government statutory authority. Our role it is to facilitate integrated and ecologically sustainable management of natural, cultural, and productive landscapes. The Mallee CMA region covers 3.9 million hectares – about one fifth of Victoria. It is the largest catchment area in the state and runs along the Murray River from Nyah to the South Australian border, and south through vast dryland cropping areas and public reserves.

About the opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists to contribute to the delivery of vital environmental watering programs across the iconic Victorian Mallee. This role supports the development, management and implementation of environmental flows and associated water projects that aim to improve the health and resilience of the Mallee’s floodplains and wetlands. The position has a strong focus on monitoring, compliance and reporting of environmental water delivery across several key programs, while also contributing to future planning and adaptive management.

This is a temporary role up to 2 years, offering a salary range of $80,000 to $95,000 plus super working up to 1.0 FTE.

About the role

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and/or supporting projects across the environmental water program, including procurement, contractor/consultant management and financial management.
  • Supporting the management, operation and maintenance of various water monitoring systems (including telemetered and associated assets).
  • Ensuring the delivery of environmental water programs in adherence to all compliance requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Establishing and maintaining transparent and effective decision-making frameworks; including the administration and quality assurance of operations registers and reporting systems.

What we’re looking for

A motivated professional who offers demonstrated experience in water and natural resource management, along with well-developed project management and analytical skills and a strong track record in data collection, management and reporting.

Among your skills you will have:

  • A degree in science, environmental management, NRM, or a related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role.
  • An understanding of NRM, including floodplains, wetlands and rivers and the terrestrial systems they support.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and/or project management, particularly contractor management.
