The Programme for Air, Water, and Landscape Science encompasses education and research in meteorology, hydrology, environmental analysis, and physical geography. More information on the programme’s science can be found at: LUVAL.

You will work in close collaboration with international experts in climate science, natural hazards, political science and statistics. You will also be part of the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (climes, www.climes.se). Climes is a collaboration between Uppsala University, Lund University, and RISE. The centre is at the core of an interdisciplinary research community and regularly coordinates scientific meetings, international exchanges, and training opportunities.

Duties
As researcher within the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (climes) you will contribute to linking hazard and socio-economic impact data for climate extremes. The position is based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University, but you will also be expected to contribute 20% of your time to a project focusing on climate-related disasters and adaptation, coordinated from the Dept. of Government.

Requirements
PhD degree in climate science, environmental analysis or natural hazards, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in the above subjects. 

We are looking for a researcher who has a strong self-drive, works independently and takes initiative. Great weight will be placed on personal qualities. You should have past experience in all of the following: the analysis of large climate and hydrological datasets; the analysis of climate impact datasets; and the study of the societal determinants of impacts of climate extremes. You should also demonstrate excellent spoken and written communication skills in English and have authored peer-reviewed articles in leading international academic journals. We further require good cooperation skills as the work involves collaborations with different research groups.

Additional qualifications

Experience of international collaborations and the ability to understand scientific texts in Swedish with a focus on meteorology and climate are advantageous.

About the employment

The employment is a temporary position, 12 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 1^st October 2026 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
