Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the TEP Coordinator to develop, plan, and implement workshops and field classes for stakeholders and target audiences, and conduct follow-up research. Schedule and provide TEP classes.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates local and regional workshops and meetings working collaboratively with partners to identify needs, provide technical assistance, resources, and training.
  • Coordinates outreach programs; finds opportunities to integrate FSU research/initiative into Coastal Training program.
  • Generate communication materials in written, audio, and video media, as well as social media content for the DEP social media accounts. Oversee the creation and publication of the OysterCatcher newsletter. Manage ANERR presence on websites and social media. Compile success stories from ANERR, northwest Region AP, and Buffer staff to generate weekly reports to central Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection and participate in a weekly call with communications staff and Central ECP office staff relaying relevant updates and protocol, changes with staff.
  • Operates vehicles/vessels as needed and assists with efforts to plan, prepare and respond to extreme weather and impacts to ANERR and regional facilities.

Qualifications

High school diploma/equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)

Must have a valid Florida or Georgia Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain prior to hire. 

Ability to move/lift up to 25 lbs. (i.e., field equipment, displays for special events and outreach activities.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills and positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences both verbally and in writing; public speaking skills and level of comfort in front of various professional audiences utilizes problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to compile printing materials and visual aids for training, information research, workshop development, writing and/or producing educational materials. Ability to add workshops, programs, and other information to the website.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to utilize multimedia approaches to training.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of event planning and ability to coordinate, organize and evaluate meetings and/or events. Ability to efficiently plan, organize and coordinate workshops and meetings. Knowledge of training and teaching methodology. Skills in public speaking.

FSUCML is located on the northeastern Gulf of Mexico coast in a relatively undeveloped area of rich biological diversity one hour south of the FSU main campus in Tallahassee. This position is located in Eastpoint, Florida at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR)

This position works with ANERR’s Training and Engagement Program (TEP) to provide up-to-date scientific information and skill building opportunities for collaborative networks of decision makers, stakeholders, and professionals whose work and decisions have impacts on coastal resources in northwest Florida, specifically the Apalachicola Watershed. The goal of TEP section is to transfer science conducted at ANERR, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection (FLDEP) to stakeholders enabling them to make and implement decisions that protect the environment. Stakeholders served by TEP include local, state, and federal government officials, elected officials, planners, coastal managers, seafood industry, private industry, watershed groups, water management districts, residents, and nonprofit organizations.
