About Us
The West Kootenay Watershed Collaborative is an active non-profit organization dedicated to watershed research, public outreach, and environmental education in the West Kootenay region. We bring together communities, researchers, and local stewards to protect and celebrate the water systems we all depend on.
About the Role
Do you care deeply about the environment? Do you thrive when educating and connecting with people? Are you eager to learn about our local watersheds up close?
We’re looking for a committed, creative summer student to join our team for 8 weeks, supporting our communications and community outreach work. This is a hands-on role that takes you from your home office out into the community — attending summer fairs, engaging the public, and helping tell the story of watershed stewardship in the Kootenays.
You will work under the direction of our Project Coordinator and Administrative Coordinator, with support from designated mentors throughout the placement.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct watershed and forest research to develop public outreach materials
Contribute to a dynamic web and social media presence
Represent the organization at summer fairs and community events
Assist with data entry and grant research
Prepare a final report for the federal program funder
Who We’re Looking For
You are between 20 and 30 years of age and have completed one to two years of post-secondary education in one of the following fields:
- Communications
- Graphic Arts or Advertising
- Information Technology
- Environmental Sciences
- Forestry
You are returning to school in the fall of 2026, comfortable working independently from a home office, and able to travel to events with a reliable vehicle.
Pay: $21.00 per hour
