As a Watershed Engineer, you will lead, design, and implement projects, strategies, and initiatives that support the City of Calgary’s watershed resilience, environmental sustainability, and long-term water security objectives. This role provides technical expertise and strategic recommendations related to integrated watershed management, climate adaptation, drought preparedness, and environmental risk management. Primary duties will evolve over time to support emerging watershed, climate resilience, and environmental priorities across the corporation. Primary duties include:
• Conduct complex technical research, analysis, modelling, and evaluation related to watershed planning, green stormwater infrastructure, environmental management, climate resilience, and water security/ Demand Management initiatives.
• Lead and support integrated watershed management, drought preparedness, climate adaptation, and environmental resilience projects and initiatives.
• Develop technical reports, briefing materials, presentations, and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Research and evaluate emerging trends, legislation, policies, best practices, and innovative approaches related to watershed management and environmental resilience.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with internal partners, regulators, regional agencies, consultants, academia, and external organizations to support watershed and environmental objectives.
• Provide technical expertise and recommendations to support long-term watershed resilience, environmental sustainability, and service continuity planning.
• Manage projects including scoping, planning, coordination, monitoring, reporting, budgeting, and implementation to achieve intended outcomes on time and within budget.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives through innovation, technical leadership, collaboration, and the application of best practices in watershed management and environmental planning.

Qualifications
• A degree in Engineering with at least 7 years of progressive professional experience in watershed planning, water supply management, and watershed monitoring obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in integrated watershed management, climate resilience, environmental planning, water security, and watershed monitoring is required.
• Experience leading or supporting complex technical projects, multidisciplinary initiatives and strategic planning activities is considered an asset.
• Experience in drought preparedness and response planning, including the development and application of drought indicators and triggers is considered an asset
• Familiarity with the Alberta Water Act, water licence management, environmental regulations, and watershed governance framework is considered an asset.
• Success in this role requires strong communication, strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, sound decision-making, adaptability, and the ability to build collaborative relationships within multidisciplinary teams.
