NCA is a member of various civil society networks, coordination mechanisms, and clusters in Ethiopia. In its current strategic period (2025-2029), NCA Ethiopia implements programs focused on Climate Resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (CRWASH); Climate and Environment Stewardship/Economic Development and Food Security; Peacebuilding; Gender-Based Violence/Sexual/ Reproductive Health; and Humanitarian Emergency Response. Position Title: WASH Intern
Required number: 1 (one)
Reporting to: CRWASH Program Manager
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to project sites
Length of Internship: Three months with a possibility of three more months extension based on funding availability.
Compensation: As per the NCA’s scheme
Job Summary:
WASH Intern 1 (one) CRWASH Program Manager Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to project sites Three months with a possibility of three more months extension based on funding availability. As per the NCA’s scheme The WASH Intern joins the CRWASH team, learns and gains experience about the proper implementation of projects, prepares reports, supports partners, and contributes to the improvement of the program.
Major functions will include:
• Learn on the job, being involved in planning and implementation of climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene (CRWASH) projects.
• Take part in partners’ support in organizing the training of WASH Committees.
• Learn to cooperate with other team members and the technical staff of the implementing partners and learn and gain experience.
• Take part and learn in a field mission to the field for monitoring, providing technical support to partners, and ensuring coordination and collaboration.
• Take part in a report write-up.
• Prepare project documentation and timely upload to the organization’s project information management system (PIMS).
• Learn about community-level sanitation and hygiene awareness campaigns.
• Contribute to documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from WASH projects for knowledge sharing and replication.
• Engage with the communities to understand their WASH needs, promote behavior change, and ensure community ownership of WASH facilities.
About You
Minimum Qualifications Required:
• Education: The ideal internship candidate is a recent graduate (graduated within 2025/2026) in Hydraulic Engineering or Water Resource Engineering, or Hydrology with an average CGPA of 3.5 and above. The candidate should successfully pass the exit exam.
• Technical skills: A skillset in using Microsoft Office suites. Software knowledge that is relevant to WASH activities, data collection, and analysis is a plus.
• Languages: Proficiency in Amharic and English is required. Knowledge or proficiency in other local languages is an advantage.
Personal skills and attributes:
• Positive, flexible, and open to learning.
• Strong integrity and competence.
• Ability to be trained under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Sound written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to engage in a multicultural environment.
• Willing and able to travel to remote areas where NCA operates frequently.
