Project Objectives
The IAPSI project (Artificial Intelligence and Automation applied to High Value-Added Sustainable Products from Insects) aims primarily at the experimental development of an intelligent system to optimize the industrial-scale rearing process of black soldier fly larvae. This includes the valorization of by-products, environmental footprint analysis, and optimization of hydraulic processes.
This system is based on automation technologies, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and IoT systems, with the goal of improving the efficiency, sustainability, and traceability of the production process.
The specific objectives of the project include:
• Design of an advanced monitoring system through the installation of measurement instruments, optimization of algorithms, and computer vision.
• Experimental development of an automated feeding and precision irrigation system.
• Valorization of by-products for use as fertilizers, obtaining experimental data on improvements in agricultural production.
• Reduction of the environmental footprint (water and carbon).
• Preparation of a synthesis of the project results.
Tasks to be carried out by the hired researcher
The hired individual will participate, under the supervision of the research team at the University of A Coruña, in the following tasks:
• Technical support in the installation, instrumentation, and commissioning of hardware systems for monitoring and data acquisition, both at Citeec and at the industrial plant, including assistance with calibration tasks, operational testing, data collection, and technical documentation.
• Participation in the development and maintenance of software tools for calculating and analyzing the water footprint and carbon footprint, including the implementation of calculation modules, integration of experimental data, validation of results, and support for the visualization of environmental indicators.
• Participation in tasks related to analyzing the feasibility of wet feed as fertilizer, assessment of NPK content analysis, and collaboration in agronomic efficacy trials.
