The HydroEcology of the Anthropocene Lab (HEAL) at the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) and University of Kansas (KU) Department of Geology is hiring a Field Ecohydrologist to join our team in summer 2026.

The Field Ecohydrologist will conduct research in agricultural fields, prairies, streams, rivers, and other terrestrial and aquatic settings in Kansas and the Great Plains region. We are looking for a responsible and detail-oriented person who enjoys doing science outside. We are open to a wide range of backgrounds (geosciences, environmental science, agronomy, soil science, etc.).

What you’ll do:

  • Help with, and eventually lead, field work efforts on multiple projects.
  • Work closely with scientists, staff, and students to answer research questions.
  • Communicate and interact with stakeholders across the state.
  • Help maintain, organize, troubleshoot field equipment.
  • Process field samples in the lab and manage field data.

  • Salary: $50-55,000 annually
  • Must have drivers license, enthusiasm to work outside in all Kansas seasons, and willingness to travel overnight periodically.
