The Opportunity:
The Department is looking to establish a multi‑level appointment pool for Environmental Officers with expertise in aquatic science. Appointments may be made at Specified Calling Level 1 or Level 2, depending on demonstrated capability and organisational requirements.
- Specified Calling Level 1 (SCL1) positions focus on the application of established scientific and technical skills to support aquatic environmental management outcomes. Officers at this level work within defined frameworks, procedures and legislative requirements, contributing to scientific investigations, monitoring programs and environmental assessments under direction. The role involves collecting and analysing aquatic data, assisting with research and investigative activities, preparing routine technical reports and documentation, and supporting team‑based operational and regulatory functions. These positions provide an opportunity to consolidate professional skills while contributing to evidence‑based environmental decision‑making.
- Specified Calling Level 2 (SCL2) positions operate with greater responsibility, autonomy and professional judgement. Officers at this level contribute independently to aquatic science and environmental management functions and manage more complex aspects of investigations, assessments or monitoring programs under general direction. The role involves analysing and interpreting scientific data, preparing detailed reports and technical advice, applying legislation and policy to a broader range of matters, and contributing to informed decision‑making processes. Officers at this level may also provide technical guidance to team members and support the delivery of organisational objectives through specialist knowledge and experience.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for this pool if they have qualifications and experience in aquatic science or a related discipline and wish to be considered for future opportunities contributing to the management and protection of aquatic environments.
