Offer Description
The person will be assigned to the Cities & Territories team of the UMR Pacte. The COMASUAR project is led by Arnaud Buchs (Professor UGA, UMR Pacte) and brings together an interdisciplinary team composed of Sandrine Allain (Researcher INRAE, UR LESSEM), Aïda Arik (Researcher INRAE, UR LESSEM), Juliette Blanchet (Senior Researcher CNRS, IGE) and Isabelle Ruin (Senior Researcher CNRS, IGE).
Conducting field research (interviews, questionnaires, observation, etc.) to:
Gain insight into water management practices and local collective action dynamics related to water.
Collect data to characterize the hydrogeological and climatic context at a granular level, as well as its evolution.
Analyze the logic behind collective action, as well as conflicts and tensions over water use.
Contribute to the development of future scenarios with local stakeholders.
Produce visualization materials.
Participate in facilitating workshops and presenting findings.
Conduct a state-of-the-art review of the logic behind collective action related to the commons (the “new commons”).
Contribute to the drafting of a scientific article.
Restrictions or constraints related to the position:
The application package must include: a CV, a cover letter, and a written work (published article, thesis, or report), preferably authored solely by the applicant.
The work takes place in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary environment requiring coordination and regular exchanges with academic and institutional partners. As such, significant presence in Grenoble is required.
Field trips are to be expected; a Class B driver’s license is mandatory.
Occasional meetings at the end of the day may be organized with local stakeholders.
- Knowledge of water governance issues is a prerequisite.
- Proficiency in qualitative research methods is required.
- Skills in data processing, analysis, and visualization are also required.
- Proficiency in R is preferred.
- Skills in mapping and the use of GIS tools are preferred.
- The ability to integrate qualitative, quantitative, and spatial approaches is essential.
- Experience facilitating participatory workshops would be an asset.
- Teamwork (especially in an interdisciplinary environment).
- Proficiency in methodological skills for conducting surveys.
- Comfortable initiating contact and conducting interviews.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong writing skills in English.
The position requires autonomy, scientific rigor, and organizational skills. It requires the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and to engage with non-academic stakeholders. Strong writing skills, the ability to synthesize information, and the capacity to contribute to a collaborative environment are expected.
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in the humanities or social sciences, particularly in economics (institutional and/or ecological), geography, sociology, political science, urban and regional planning, or a related field.
The candidate must have a solid understanding of water-related issues, governance, and conflicts over water use, preferably in mountainous regions.
