The Idaho Department of Water Resources is offering an exciting opportunity for an individual who has education and experience related to the field of hydrogeology, effective written and oral communication skills, and wants to have a positive impact on complex ground water issues across the state.

The position will provide support to our programs that regulate well drilling and construction, injection wells, and geothermal resources in Idaho.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate for this vacancy will also have experience (1) involving the design, construction, and testing of wells; (2) conducting technical groundwater resource studies and communicating the methods and results via oral presentations and written technical documents; and (3) interpreting and applying federal or state environmental laws and regulations. Additional desired qualifications include experience writing and editing computer scripts and programs, as well as experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software to process, analyze, and display hydrogeologic data.

Example of Duties

  • Process and issue water supply drilling permits, injection well permits, and geothermal resource permits
  • Review and process well driller license and renewal applications
  • Perform field inspections of water supply wells and injection wells for compliance with statutes and administrative rules
  • Respond to public inquires related to all section programs
  • Investigate and resolve Well Construction and UIC complaints
  • Manage or assist with management of the UIC database for Class V injection wells
  • Produce memos, correspondence or reports that summarize technical data for internal and external use, including maps to show spatial distribution of water supply and injection wells in relation to other features of interest and concern

Minimum Qualifications

Good knowledge of:

  • Principles, theories, and practices of groundwater hydrology or hydrogeology including those pertaining to groundwater flow.

Experience:

  • Collecting and analyzing data to evaluate groundwater characteristics and flow


Desired Qualifications

  • Registration as a Professional Geologist as defined in Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 28
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal or state environmental laws and regulations
  • Experience writing and editing computer programs
  • Experience using GIS applications to process, analyze, and display hydrogeologic data

Working Conditions

The work is performed in an office and field environment. The position requires regular travel and may involve hazardous conditions with intense noise. This position may require occasional overnight stays.
