Designation Offered: Research Intern

Team/Focus area: Sustainable Water Programme

Location: New Delhi, India

Reporting to: Senior Engagement Associate/Programme Associate

Duration: May – August 2026 (3 –6  months)

Purpose

The CEEW’s sustainable water programme informs policy-making for the sustainable development of water resources and their effective management through research and advocacy. 

For its water programme, CEEW seeks to hire an intern to provide analytical support to advance ongoing work on mainstreaming a circular used water economy. The candidate should be aware of the urban water supply and used water management scenario and challenges, especially considering the climate variability and change and the current policy discourse for addressing them. The intern will mainly support the creation and analysis of datasets pertaining to used water management, review relevant national and state-level policies and programmes on used water treatment and reuse, and conduct literature review on circular economy applications in the water sector. 

Job duties and accountabilities

Research: 

  • Support in identifying, compiling, and organising datasets related to used water generation, treatment infrastructure, water quality, and reuse potential in cities
  • Support in data cleaning, processing, and analysis of water management datasets
  • Support systematic review of literature and referencing
  • Support in making maps using visual representation tools
  • Any other work assigned

Project/Programme Assistance: 

  • Assist with project and programme implementation, including preparing presentations,

factsheets, and other research communication materials.

  • Assist senior team members in important meetings and sessions, such as

preparing notes and conducting follow-ups.

  • Travel to project sites, if required, to monitor field surveys, conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects.
  • Any other assistance that may be required.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications and work experience:

  • Master’s degree (completed or pursuing) in environmental engineering, water resources management/engineering, environmental studies, urban planning, or a related field

Key Skills

  • Strong data management skills, including data compilation, cleaning, and analysis
  • Should have strong research skills to support a systematic review of the literature
  • Ability to write in a manner that can summarise and communicate the insights/findings 
  • Good presentation skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Basic understanding of financial modelling (optional)

  • Willingness to learn new (research) skills
  • Ability to adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment
  • Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output
  • Ability to effectively work in a team
