As a SCADA Engineer at North East Water, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and supporting critical SCADA and operational technology systems to ensure the efficient operation of our water and wastewater systems.

In this role you will be involved in both operational and project‑based activities, ensuring our control environments remain reliable and efficient. This will include analysing system performance, identifying optimisation opportunities, and implementing system enhancements.

You’ll also have access to a broad range of learning opportunities, to expand your knowledge and skills in industrial control systems and the water industry.

This role is currently based in Wodonga and part of our Industrial Control Systems team. You will be involved in servicing communities across the North East offering the chance to get out and about in one of Victoria’s most beautiful regions and gain exposure across our variety of plants.

This is a full-time, ongoing role offering monthly RDO’s and flexible work arrangements. The general working hours for this position are 8:15am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administration, monitoring and maintenance of SCADA and historian.
  • Programming and configuration of operational technology (OT) field devices, including RTUs, PLCs, and telemetry radios.
  • Providing technical support to the ICS team, operations and the wider business.
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues, and support incident response activities.
  • Supporting the rollout of cybersecurity controls across SCADA and OT environments.
  • Delivering SCADA and OT upgrade projects, system enhancements and technology replacement programs.
  • Testing and commissioning new and modified systems.
  • Providing SCADA data and reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, configuration records, network diagrams, IP addressing schemes, disaster recovery plans, asset registers and knowledge base materials.
  • Delivering SCADA training to broader business users.

Key Selection Criteria

To be in consideration for this position please address all 6 questions in your application:

Essential on application:

  1. A relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Industrial Automation or related field.
  2. Demonstrated experience in the design, programming, and commissioning of SCADA software, PLCs, and/or RTU systems.
  3. Current Driver’s Licence is required.

Desirable but not required:

  1. Knowledge of telemetry radio communications systems.
  2. Experience with AVEVA Historian, AVEVA PlantScada, OMRON PLC’s, Kingfisher/Brodersen RTU’s or equivalent systems.
  3. Current Victorian A Grade Electrical License or ability to obtain through mutual recognition.
