Dublin City University (DCU) is pleased to advertise a fully funded 4‑year PhD position within the DCU Water Institute, as part of the national programme Decarbonising Ireland: AI‑Powered Pathways to Climate Resilience.

🎓 PhD Title: Physics‑Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for Water Resilience
📍 Location: Dublin City University, Ireland
📅 Start date: September 2026

This interdisciplinary PhD will focus on developing next‑generation AI and machine learning methods that integrate physical laws with data‑driven models to improve the prediction, monitoring, and management of water systems under climate change and urbanisation pressures. The research will address challenges such as floods, droughts, water quality, microbiology, and infrastructure resilience, working with real‑world data and national/international partners.

🔍 We are looking for candidates with a strong background in:

✅ Computer/Data Science, Electronic Engineering, Bioinformatics or Computational Science with AI Specialisation
✅ Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Artificial Intelligence
✅ Programming languages and robust software development
✅ Research experience and publications

This PhD will be jointly supervised by Assoc. Prof. Ali Intizar and Prof. Fiona Regan at Dublin City University. The selected candidate will be registered in a structured PhD programme at the School of Electronic Engineering, DCU Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Dublin City University.

This project is part of a national research partnership on Decarbonising Ireland: AI-Powered Pathways to Climate Resilience which is led by UCD, involving DCU, TCD, TU Dublin, UL, UCC, and ICHEC, offering exceptional networking and interdisciplinary training opportunities.
