Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of Hydrology and Cryosphere and Chief of Hydrological and Water Resources Services Section, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
(a) Coordinate the development of technical components for HydroSOS (standards and methods) and the development of the HydroSOS global and local portals in association with the technical development team lead and the global hydrological modelling community, in close coordination with the relevant colleagues.
(b) Coordinate the implementation with relevant HydroSOS Project officers. phase of HydroSOS, in cooperation
(c) Lead the publication of the WMO’s Annual State of Global Water Resources report, to be developed in collaboration with external WMO experts, consultants, and the Task Team for the report.
(d) Miscellaneous
i. Contribute to the related activities and events (World Water Week, IAH, COP etc)
ii. Collaborate with partners in NHMS Germany and Universities for the implementation of HydroSOS.
iii. Collaborate with external partners and contribute to research papers relevant to activities in the WMO Plan of action – Hydrology.
iv. Undertake other duties as requested by the Director of the Hydrology, and Cryosphere Division and other Executives as required on matters associated with the activities and outputs of the Department, in particular as these relate to the HC domain.
v. Carry out other relevant duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Masters in Hydrology, Environmental Sciences or relevant fields is required. PhD in Hydrology, Environmental Sciences or relevant fields would be an asset.
Experience:
• A minimum of 5 Years progressively responsible experience in UN related or other public reports related to Hydrology, Water Assessments is a must.
• Experience in coordinating with multiple partners, Member States is an advantage.
• Familiarity with the structure and working procedures and activities of WMO is desirable.
Other Requirements:
• Knowledge of climate/water/weather service frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to develop guidance materials and provide support in capacity building.
• Coding knowledge, and hands on experience with hydrological models is an advantage
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.
(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)

Salary and Allowances
The position is funded from the staff common cost.
Annual net base salary on initial appointment is: US$ 71,335
Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 64,558 (in addition to the net base salary)

Probation
