Doctoral (Licentiat) student in Geospatial Data Analysis and Hydrogeological Modeling

KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪

School of Architecture and Built Environment at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Hydrogeology, Contamination and Hydroclimate

The project focuses on assessing the contribution of historical, emerging, and future groundwater pollution to coastal marine environments across spatial and temporal scales. It considers key processes such as submarine groundwater discharge and the interactions between hydrological, biogeochemical, and climatic factors influencing pollutant transport, drawing on advanced groundwater modelling approaches to better represent subsurface dynamics. This will provide insights into pollution pathways and impacts on coastal water quality through the integration of spatial analysis and geospatial data processing. The project will investigate the current status of groundwater-coastal system interactions in several case studies and the potential outcomes of different environmental and management scenarios, incorporating data-driven methods to improve predictions and support strategies aimed at reducing pollution and improving marine ecosystem health.
