Water for South Sudan, Inc. (WFSS) is recruiting a full-time, non-exempt (35 hours per week) Development Associate to strengthen the fundraising systems, processes, and day-to-day execution that help make clean, safe water access possible. This role ensures donor information is accurate and actionable, reporting is reliable, and development activities run consistently and efficiently. As WFSS continues to grow its fundraising function, this role will also support donor stewardship, donor communications, campaign execution, and broader donor engagement over time.
Donor Data & CRM Management (50%)
- Manage the structure, integrity, and day-to-day use of the donor CRM (Salesforce)
- Maintain data standards, conduct regular audits, and support overall data quality
- Produce fundraising reports and dashboards that support decision-making, planning, and Board reporting
- Conduct periodic reviews of Salesforce and related fundraising platforms to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement
Development Operations & Stewardship (40%)
- Document and improve processes for gift processing, campaign setup, donor records, acknowledgements, donor communications, and revenue reconciliation
- Coordinate with Finance to support timely and accurate gift reconciliation
- Build and maintain scalable acknowledgement, stewardship, and segmentation workflows
- Draft and manage thank-you letters, donor acknowledgements, and related stewardship communications across giving levels
- Support campaign reporting and analysis to inform future efforts
Donor Engagement & Event Support (10%)
- Provide operational and data support for fundraising and donor engagement events as this area grows
- Help build systems for event tracking, follow-up, and revenue attribution in the CRM
- Support post-event follow-up and stewardship activities
- Contribute to processes that strengthen donor engagement for smaller giving levels over time
Qualifications
Required
- 3–5+ years of experience in development, fundraising operations, or nonprofit revenue systems
- Strong experience managing donor databases; Salesforce preferred
- Demonstrated ability to build or improve processes in a growing or changing environment
- Strong attention to detail, accountability, and follow-through
- Ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with donors and external stakeholders
Preferred
- Experience supporting stewardship, campaigns, or individual giving
- Experience producing fundraising reports for leadership or Boards
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and gift reconciliation
- Experience working in a lean or growing organization

Work Environment & Schedule
- Regular in-office presence required at the Rochester, NY headquarters, with potential for a hybrid work schedule after onboarding.
- Occasional evening availability required for events.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this role is $27–$33/hour. WFSS typically hires within the lower half of the range to support internal equity and growth over time. Benefits include:

Pay: $49,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
