We’re actively seeking an enthusiastic Junior Engineering Technician with a proactive mindset to become a valuable part of our team. As a Junior Engineering Technician, you’ll be part of an integral part of a team of dedicated professionals collaborating to support programs and partners throughout the region. Responsibilities will include assisting Engineers in a variety of non-professional engineering work, including installing stream gages, collecting stream stage, flow, temperature, and data at multiple stream gages; and using Acoustic Doppler Meters and other measurement devices to perform flow measurements on fast moving water. The incumbent must be able to swim, drive on and off road, and travel on short notice and stay overnight, for several consecutive days, at field locations.

Special Requirements

Get ready to hit the road and embark on exciting adventures.  Must have a valid California driver’s license to drive a personal, rental, or State vehicle to meetings, conferences, trainings, or project sites.  Field work involves strenuous physical activity, including traveling on short notice for overnight assignments lasting several consecutive days and independently accessing remote sites by vehicle, boat, or other means. Duties require operating pickup trucks and towing trailers over rugged terrain, launching and operating boats with outboard motors, and transporting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across steep, undeveloped areas. Work is performed in and around swift, deep waterways and includes swimming or staying afloat, wading across streams while carrying heavy objects, and maintaining stability in challenging conditions. The role also requires working extended hours in extreme weather, navigating densely vegetated areas with potential exposure to pests and wildlife, and handling tools and materials.

Desirable Qualifications
