Purpose

The CEEW’s sustainable water programme informs policy-making for the sustainable development of water resources and their effective management through research in the areas of: mainstreaming circular economy in used water management through planning for treated water reuse and water bodies rejuvenation; enabling water security under changing climate through developing pathways for resilient water systems; and assessing policy coherence for inclusive water and allied resources governance; and water accounting based planning.

The programme is looking to hire a Research Analyst (RA) with a fundamental understanding of hydrological modelling and the use of GIS and remote sensing for data collection and analysis. The RA will primarily be responsible for data collection and analysis, providing support in hydrological modelling and preparing water balance and accounts. Additionally, the RA will review relevant national policies, programmes, and other national and international literature related to climate change and water resources management. Candidates with an academic background in water resources, hydrology, remote sensing, or GIS are strongly encouraged to apply.

Job duties and accountabilities

Research

·       Perform hydrological modelling (using SWAT, WEAP, etc.) and prepare water balance and accounts.

·       Support in data collection and analysis from gridded datasets.

·       Undertake data cleaning and sorting.

·       Prepare maps using visual representation tools.

·       Perform systematic review of literature.

·       Assist or preferably, independently write high-quality research reports.

·       Generate knowledge content- blogs, policy briefs, etc. at regular intervals.

·       Any other relevant work as assigned.

Project/Programme Assistance:

·       Assist with programme implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets, and other communication materials.

·       Assist in effective outreach of research outputs through coordination with the outreach team and engagement with a broader network of stakeholders and concerned policymakers.

·       As required, assist senior team members in important meetings and sessions, such as preparing notes and conducting follow-ups.

·       Assist in coordination with the outreach team, engagement with a wider network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers.

·       Travel to project sites, if required, to monitor field surveys, conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects.

·       Any other assistance that may be required.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications and work experience:

·       Master’s degree in Water Resources/Hydrology/Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering/Geography/Geographical Information Systems (GIS), or a related field.

·       Up to 2 years of work experience related to Hydrology, GIS and Remote Sensing.

Key Skills:

·       Competent with hydrological modelling and inference.

·       Working knowledge of Python and/or R for data analysis and modelling.

·       GIS and remote sensing skills.

·       Capability in rainfall and discharge trend and variability analysis.

·       Strong research, analytical, and technical writing skills.

·       Effective communication and presentation skills.

·

Personality:
