Offer Description
The dean of the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, announces a competition for the position of Senior Assistant (F/M) in the group of the research and teaching staff (R2), in the field of Earth and Related Environmental Sciences (WGSR_K3_2026) in the Department of Physical Geography, full-time position for a one year period, with possibility of prolongation.

Skills/Qualifications
Basic responsibilities and obligations:
– educating students, including supervision of diploma theses (bachelor’s and master’s);
– conducting and coordinating classes at first and second cycle studies in the fields of: GIS systems, hydrological modeling, hydrological study methods, hydrometry;
– conducting scientific research on topics carried out at the University and related to personal scientific development, and publishing the results with affiliation to the University of Warsaw;
– preparation of a scientific monograph;
– organizing and participating in scientific conferences and symposia;
– active participation in the scientific life of the University, cooperation with representatives of other research centers domestically and abroad;
– seeking funding for conducting scientific research;
– popularizing knowledge outside the university;
– cooperation with the socio-economic and cultural environment.

Conditions for entering the competition:
– Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)
– obtained a doctoral degree in the discipline of Earth and Related Environmental Sciences
– scientific publications in publishers listed in the official ministerial register
– documented participation in at least 3 national and/or international conferences in the last 7 years
– documented collaboration with the socio-economic and cultural environment (e.g., with municipal institutions, non-governmental organizations, enterprises, cultural institutions) in the last 7 years
– fluent knowledge of Polish and English
If hired, we expect the University of Warsaw to be the primary workplace for the successful candidate.

– a copy of the doctoral diploma in the discipline specified above in the requirements, or another document confirming the award of a doctoral degree in the discipline specified above in the requirements.

Selection process
Criteria for the assessment of candidates in a competition:
– delivering papers at national and international conferences and seminars (30 points)
– scientific publications in journals from the official ministerial list (30 points).
In the interview, the candidate should demonstrate knowledge about the natural environment, the relationship between water quality and catchment conditions, ecohydrology, GIS systems (40 points).
The candidate is expected to present their scientific plans for the coming years.
The competition consists of the following stages:
– Stage I – formal evaluation of documents,
– Stage II – substantive evaluation on the basis of submitted documents,
– Stage III – interview with selected candidates,
– Stage IV – final evaluation of competence, experience and scientific achievements,
– Stage V – adjudication of the competition and announcement of results.
The competition will be decided by 13.06.2026
