Research at the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development (NRHU) section of the Department of Earth Sciences covers a broad range of topics, including mineral and metal resources for society and the energy transition, geohazards and resilient communities, climate change, and active biodiversity. The Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology Group at NRHU is currently seeking a research assistant to support this effort. For more information: NRHU.
Duties
The work includes preparing rock samples for geochemical analysis (rock cutting, crushing, grinding and mineral separation) and supporting scientific manuscript and presentation preparation. Tasks will include organizing and maintaining sample collections, compiling and maintaining sample and geochemical databases, visualizing geochemical data, reviewing and editing manuscript text, and organizing presentation material for lectures and scientific conferences.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Earth Sciences. Experience in preparing rock samples, handling geochemical data and word processing software. The work requires good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Very good English language skills are essential.
Personal suitability is of high importance for this position. The candidate must be reliable and be able to independently pursue and complete the tasks within given time frames, even during peak work periods.
Additional qualifications
Experience working with vector graphics in e.g. Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape is advantageous.
