We seek two dedicated researchers to boost our strategic efforts in the blue bioeconomy. You will help develop circular bluegreen food systems in our research facilities and in pilot plants together with our industry partners.

Key Information

As part of NIBIO’s increased focus on marine bioeconomy, we are advertising two permanent positions as researcher/senior researcher.
They are based at NIBIO Bodø, and forms part of Nibio’s strategic efforts towards aquaculture as an integral part of circular food systems. The successful candidates will have primary responsibility for developing our project portfolio towards increased bluegreen industrial circularity and profitability, which we think go hand-in-hand.

Professional qualifications (required)

  • PhD in phycology, aquaculture, marine biology, biochemistry, or a related field; relevant work experience may compensate for the PhD requirement
  • Experience in project acquisition, preferably both industrydriven and researchdriven projects
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Learn Norwegian at a satisfactory level within 2 years if not fluent in a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish)

Main responsibilities

We will be looking for two candidates that complement each others competences, for example a strong experimental/analytical candidate combined with someone with aquaculture/industrial experience. 

  • Develop and contribute to the department’s project portfolio
  • Communicate project results to ensure implementation for all relevant stakeholder groups
  • Provide training for researchers and students
  • Participate in the operation and development of the analytical laboratory and data processing systems
  • Participate in the operation and development of the culture hall and strain bank
  • Take part in fieldwork (on the shore or from a boat) and activities at pilot facilities; travel should be expected

In periods of high work load, work beyond regular working hours must be expected. 

Will be evaluated positively

  • Experience from aquaculture at various trophic levels or integrated (aquaponics, IMTA, or IMRAS)
  • Experience with chromatographic and spectrophotometric analytical methods
  • Experience with data processing and statistics
  • Beneficial with an industry‑related background, including experience with targeted dissemination and exploitation of research results towards relevant stakeholder groups
  • Driving license for car

The position is remunerated according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale as Researcher code 1108 (master), 1109 (PhD) or Senior Researcher code 1183, NOK 630.000 – 960.000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which includes a good occupational pension scheme, occupational injury and group life insurance, and low-interest home loans.
